Blog

Voting in an election is a privilege, however hokey that may seem.

I don’t want this blog entry to get preachy about the importance of good government. We should all understand what’s at stake in our lives and those around us regarding the actions of our elected officials. Who we put into leadership positions matters a lot in our communities, large and small.

If we believe that our votes count in an election, then the larger issue is why so many eligible voters in the U.S. do not exercise this right.

There is not enough room in this blog to list all the reasons for this reality. Behavior is a complex thing, and what motivates someone to vote or not is difficult to explain in other than subjective terms.

I applied for a Pennsylvania absentee ballot for the upcoming general election because I’ll be in Tampa on Nov. 7 when it takes place. The Gold Blazer Band is playing a couple events down there, so I will be absent from my voting hall.

I have the satisfaction of casting my vote before the road trip because I believe it is a privilege to vote.

Thanks for visiting my site,
